Overview
Not long after I started at Appwrite, we launched our Cloud console, a cloud version of our self-hosted dashboard that had attracted developers ranging from engineering students and hobbyists to experienced professionals.
As the company grew, we shifted focus towards professionals working on side projects and small development agencies, eventually expanding to larger enterprise customers.

My role
As one of two Product Designers at Appwrite, I worked closely with engineers, visual designers, marketing, and developer advocates to enhance the developer experience across the platform. I also took on product management responsibilities for every project I led, aligning design priorities with business goals, engineering timelines, and community needs.
During my time there, I contributed to two major console redesigns and helped evolve our design system as the product grew. I also introduced analytics and tracking tools to the design team, giving us clearer visibility into how developers used the console and where we could improve.
Beyond that, I led the research and design of for several of Appwrite's core services including Functions, Storage, Support, and the billing features that introduced monetisation to the platform. These initiatives involved everything from early discovery and user interviews to wireframes, prototypes, and final implementation support.

Reflections
Working at Appwrite taught me the importance of balancing structure with adaptability. Designing for an open-source product meant navigating rapid feedback loops, evolving priorities, and a passionate developer community that shaped features through real-world use. It pushed me to refine how I approach user research, iteration, and cross-functional collaboration, and turn feedback into clear, actionable design decisions.
More than anything, it reinforced what I love about product design: translating complex, technical challenges into experiences that feel simple, empowering, and human.
